There are an infinite number of beautiful places to see in the world and a finite amount of time to explore them. I think the best way to begin adventuring and enjoying the beauty of our Earth is by starting in your own backyard or with a ten minute walk to some place that you are curious about. Lake Ontario is my favourite ‘ten minute walk away’ place to adventure to. I love how the landscape changes throughout the seasons, bringing new stories to be learned from the trees, the water, and the birds. I also love that my point of view from my side of the lake is different from my friends on the other side of the lake when they look out. I always wave across the lake whether the sky is clear or cloudy, so if you are looking out across Lake Ontario, be sure to wave back!
Exploring places by walking has many benefits both for you and the environment. Walking is one of the best forms of exercise, good for physical and mental health! A ten minute walk increases your mental alertness and helps support a positive mindset.
Van Gogh once said, “Try to walk as much as you can, and keep your love for nature, for that is the true way to learn, to understand more and more.” This summer, get out for a walk with your family and friends. Visit your local lake, pond, forest or somewhere that interests you, and take a moment to breathe, appreciate nature, and understand the importance of connecting with each other, with nature and going on a good adventure.
I hope these photos I took on some of my walks inspire you to capture your own favourite nature moments!
